Hello,
The Portability Project software will automatically diagnose
a processor to determine the kind parameters for integers
and for reals. See http://users.erols.com/dnagle/port.html
For characters and logicals, you have to RTFM.
BTW, while character sets have names ('ASCII', 'UNICODE', etc.),
how would one design a selected_log_kind() to determine
logical kinds?
The last time this came up, I don't recall a clear majority
favoring one scheme. (But, they say memory is the second
thing to go... ;-)
