Glen,
Go for Tru64. It costs a little bit extra, but there is still a big
difference between Linux and Tru64. We run Linux on most of our desktop
machines (except me -- I made sure I got a PWS with Tru64), but on all our
servers we run Tru64 V4.0F. We have a couple of DS-20s, an old 8200 plus a
clutch of PWS's. For reliability, gracefulness under load and sheer solidity
you cannot beat Tru64. We can run our DS20s up to a load of 5-6, and they
still responds. At such loads a linux system tends to lock up. And the Fortran
Compiler with the GEM backend flies.
