Thanks for the info David. I've had no other suggestions from the list-
does this mean that there is little work in the area? Despite the fact that
the WWF web site is the most visited by under 20 year olds in the UK?
My query stems from the fact that the Board is about to embark on a project
looking at audiences (child and adult) of Professional wrestling in the UK
(TV and video). In recent months we've noticed a change in the type of
material appearing on video. The works are darker in tone, contain more
overt sexual references and often include very bloody fight sequences. As a
consequence they tend to be classified '18'. We want to know what audiences
make of this trend, and a central question will be what are the pleasures
afforded by the genre? The BSC and ITC are co-sponsoring the research. They
have noticed a rise in complaints about wrestling programmes on TV. The
increased popularity of wrestling means that this is an issue which will
not go away.
I'd be grateful for any other references to work in this area. Needless to
say I'll keep the list posted on the progress of the project.
