Back in the early 1970's there was some research conducted, mostly by
Communications scholars, on the distinction between reality and fantasy
violence. You are correct most of it was dealing with television but there
may be something in that research stream of value. Also, there is a
recently completed study on the effects of violence in the media on
children. You may want to contact Ellen Wartella, Dean, College of
Communications at the University of Texas at Austin. She is an expert on
media violence and children and was involved in that study.
