Subject: Caribbean Research Seminar in the North: 1st Meeting
Some of you may remember a posting in the summer regarding an attempt
to set up a new research network: the Caribbean Research Network in
the North. This message is to announce the first meeting, which will
take place on January 26, 2001. Details follow, pasted in. I am
also attaching a flyer for the event. If people could print it out
and display it, we would greatly appreciate it.
Also, please forward this message to anyone you think would be
interested in coming.

Dinner is not included, but a reservation will be made for dinner at a
restaurant in town for those who wish to join us. Please make sure to
tell us in advance if you want to be included in this booking.
For those wishing to make B&B bookings, the following are recommended
(both are convenient for the railway station and The Priory offers car
parking as well): The Priory B&B: 15 St. Mary's Parade, Castle Hill,
Lancaster LA1 1YX Tel. 01524 845711 (ETC 4-star classification, Single
£30, Double £45-£50) Castle Hill B&B: 27 St. Mary's Parade, Lancaster
LA1 1YX Tel. 01524 849137 (Single £25, Double £40)
Lancaster University is approximately three and a half miles south of
the City of Lancaster. Directions follow:
By rail: There are direct rail links between Lancaster and London,
Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Oxford and major cities in Scotland.
From the station there is taxi service to the University (approx. £5,
tel. 32090) or it is a five minute walk into the town centre, where
there is a bus service to Lancaster University.
By bus: The bus station in town is currently being re-built, so there
is temporary bus service leaving from George Street and returning to
Brock Street. Buses no. 1 and 2 go to the University at regular
intervals.
By road: leave the M6 motorway at junction 33 and take the A6 north
towards Lancaster. After about one and half miles, having passed
through Galgate village, you will see the University buildings to the
right of the road. Turn right at the traffic lights into the
University's main drive. This leads to a roundabout at the top of the
hill. Take the first exit left from the roundabout, then the first
avenue on the right. This brings you to the reception lodge, where
staff will direct you to your destination on campus and to the
locations of pay and display parking areas.
