I would encourage anyway eligible to apply for this. I participated
in the 1999 workshop and found it very interesting and useful.

I've been asked by my colleagues, Richard Blackett and Linda Reed, to
announce that the Black History Workshop, held annually on the campus
of the University of Houston, is on the subject of "Women in the Making
of the Black World." The workshop will explore among other topics:
labor, activism, migration, family, health and reproduction, citizen-
ship, culture, representation, professions, inter/intra community
relations, and sexuality. Participation in the workshop is limited to
senior graduate students, those who plan to defend their dissertation
in the next year, and junior faculty members, those who have defended
their dissertation in the last three years. Proposals (of no more than
2 pages) with a letter of recommendation from the dissertation
advisor should be submitted, by Nov. 1, to:
Richard Blackett and Linda Reed
Department of History

The workshop will be held on March 22-25, 2001 and the costs of travel,
