FINAL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL
Balenbouche Plantation Estate, St. Lucia, West Indies - 27 December-23

Department of Archaeology, University of Bristol in conjunction with St
Lucia National Trust invite students and members of the public to submit
applications for _The Colonial Landscape of St Lucia, West
Indies_, a historical landscape archaeology field school, 27 December
2000-23 January 2001.
Some 2 or 3 week participation without credits may be possible for students
needing to return for term-time, subject to other participants' timing.
The closing date for receipt of FULL applications in
30 November 2000, but this is the final call for applications, and remaining
places are very limited.
The project is based at Balenbouche Estate, an 18th century sugar plantation
in St Lucia, West Indies, and will constitute virtually the first formal
archaeological project ever to be carried out on St Lucia. Students and
volunteers will receive full training in the principles and practice of
landscape archaeological survey and excavation, as well as a unique general
introduction to Caribbean archaeology and historical archaeology in general.
The field school is an accredited course (ref. C00Z014RCR) run by University
of Bristol. Students may gain 4 credits (North America) or 40 points (UK).
The fees for the 4 weeks are US$1550, or the reduced rate of UK£700 for UK
residents.
Fees will be payable to University of Bristol, which is a registered
charity, and are inclusive of everything (good accommodation on site, food,
tuition,
transport, etc.)
except airfare. Please note that all the reduced-rate places for
experienced archaeologists to teach on the project have now gone.
