Artec, the Arts Technology Centre is a regional and national focus for
research, development and training in the creative applications of new
technology. For ten years we have been at the leading edge of creative
development, training and production
in digital media.
Based in recently refurbished premises in Islington, current projects
include award-winning CD-ROM and website production, vocational training in
multimedia design, development of the European Multimedia Labs and research
projects with interactive
TV.
By April 2000, Artec will be independent of Islington Council and we are
now looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to establish the new
company as a centre of excellence and innovation.
Director
Full time contract
(Salary £26, 276 - £28, 482 pa inclusive of LWA)
To take overall responsibility for the development and leadership of Artec
as an international, national, regional and local centre of innovation and
excellence for research, production and training in the creative
applications of digital technology.
The successful applicant will have senior management experience in an arts,
media or training environment. S/he will have a successful track record of
fund-raising, financial, project and personnel management experience. S/he
will provide the creative vision
and leadership to ensure that Artec retains its place as one of the most
innovative and
successful new media centres in Europe.

Job Description
Artec Director
The Artec Director will report to the Artec Board of Directors & will have
responsibility for a Management Team of six, and a further ten members of
staff.
Duties comprise:
1 Overall responsibility for the development of Artec as a national,
regional and local centre of
innovation and excellence for research, production and training in
the creative applications of computers.
2 Responsible to an independent Board of Directors, for financial
accountability and performance accounting.
3 Responsibility for the development, maintenance and regular review
of Artec's strategic and business plans.
4 In consultation with Artec staff, develop strategic, artistic, and
commercial policy.
5 Personnel management of Artec's central resource, training and
workshop teams: recruitment, appraisal, motivation, team-building.
6 Responsibility for overall financial management of Artec's
training, production and development activities.
7 Responsibility for the development of fundraising, sponsorship and
other income-generating strategies and activities; preparation of funding
applications and project proposals.
8 Liaison and development of relationships with key local, national
and international funding agencies: the Arts Council of England, the London
Arts Board, Regional Arts Boards, Focus Central London, European agencies.
9 Compilation of reports to LBI committees and other funding agencies.
10 Organisation of promotional activities and public relations for the
Arts Technology Centre's production and training programmes.
11 Responsibility for ensuring that a safe working environment is
provided for all employees under your control. Ensure that relevant health
and safety matters are included as part of the induction of new employees.
12 Using a computer terminal for the input and extraction of data
whilst carrying out the above duties.
13 At all times carrying out duties with due regard to Artec's Equal

Requirements
Education and experience
E1 Four years senior management experience in an arts, media or
training environment.
E2 Four years experience (to run consecutively or concurrently) of
project management. To include:
one years experience of administering training programmes,
one years experience of financial administration and bookkeeping systems,
one years experience of supervising a group of staff (including secondees),
one years experience of working with Information Technology at a senior level.
Knowledge, skills, abilities
E3 Ability to supervise staff to achieve project objectives.
E4 Ability to develop and implement business plans, work programmes,
and monitoring procedures.
E5 Ability to identify sources of funding and to write funding
applications.
E6 Ability to develop, supervise and implement arts, production and
training programs.
E7 Knowledge of budget setting, financial control systems and
monitoring systems.
E8 Ability to write reports and meet tight deadlines.
E9 Knowledge of vocational training packages, initiatives and
developments.
E10 Knowledge of IT, Macintosh computer operating system and applications.
E11 Ability to devise, supervise and implement student and course
monitoring procedures.
E12 Ability to develop and manage specific projects involving external
bodies and sponsors.
E13 Ability to liaise and work with commercial sponsors and placement
providers, community organisations, council departments and external
agencies.
