  The Organizing Committee of the First International
  Symposium on Digital Earth Moving (DEM2001) cordially
  invites full paper and poster submissions for proposed
  presentation as part of the Symposium program. Commercial
  venders interested to showcase relevant commercial
  software and/or hardware are also encouraged to apply.



  1.  OVERVIEW

  Changing the geometry of the earth's surface is a universally
  specified need across disciplines and throughout history.
  The technological era has seen rapid emergence of digital
  tools for performing grading tasks virtually. All approaches
  weigh the concerns:

  o  Geometric manipulation - editing 3D geometric surfaces,
  o  Visualization - seeing a 3D image or model, and
  o  Accuracy - correct and reliable quantive correct
     information.

  The Symposium seeks to gather key representatives from
  commercial, academic, public and private sectors who are
  driving the use and development of these new capabilities.
  The latest commercial software, hardware, research
  innovations, and user requirements will be prime topics
  featured and open for discussion and scholarly debate.

  10.  FULL PAPER SUBMISSIONS

  Publication of accepted full paper submissions is
  planned with Springer Verlag AG as part of their,
  Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series
  (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html).
  Authors are requested to conform to the LNCS
  instructions for authors
  (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html),
  and to please note that LNCS is now also published,
  in parallel to the printed books, in full-text
  electronic version and therefore the electronic
  files of all parts of the manuscript (including
  front matter pages) must be submitted in digital
  form as advised in the instructions.

  Authors should submit original full manuscripts
  (with abstracts)  in English not to exceed 16 LNCS
  pages in total length,including figures and
  bibliography (less than 6000 words); or 4 LNCS
  pages for poster contributions. E-mail submissions
  must be in a standard format (MS Word, PDF or
  postscript, RTF, TeX, LaTeX). The title page of
  the paper should contain the title, author(s),
  affiliation(s), the submitting author's mailing
  address, e-mail address, fax number, telephone
  number, a 100-200 word abstract, 5-7 keywords,
  and a statement indicating that neither the paper
  nor a close simile has been submitted elsewhere
  for publication. If you are unable to submit
  electronically, please contact the Symposium
  organizers to request separate submission
  arrangements.

  Authors of accepted papers are expected to present
  their papers in person and to attend the full
  conference.

  Notification of acceptance will be mailed out
  by April 1, 2001, with final camera ready papers
  due May 28, 2001. Further details for publication
  of final papers will be included in the acceptance
  notification.



   11.  SOFTWARE/HARDWARE SUBMISSIONS

   Commercial vendors who wish to demonstrate
   software or hardware as part of the Symposium
   program are encouraged to apply. An application
   packet submitted to the Scientific Committee should
   include the following:

   o  a concise  statement, not to exceed 2 pages
      in length, detailing the relevance of the product
      to one or more of the Symposium Themes.

   o  accompanying graphic material submitted on a
      floppy disk or CD-Rom. Demo versions of software
      are ok.

   o  the required facility and/or hardware support
      necessary to showcase the product at the Symposium
      venue or in the field.

   o  examples of any commercial marketing material to
      be distributed during the Symposium or Workshop.

   The same submission and registration deadlines apply
   to commercial product submissions as to full papers
   and posters!



  12.  WORKSHOP

  A pre-Symposium field workshop is planned for September
  4, 2001, a day before the formal DEM2001 begin.
  Participants will visit a large, active earth
  construction project in Switzerland. On-site
  demonstration of digital tools used in its design
  and construction will take place.
