______________________________________________________
The Organizing Committee of the First International
Symposium on Digital Earth Moving (DEM2001) cordially
invites full paper and poster submissions for proposed
presentation as part of the Symposium program. Commercial
venders interested to showcase relevant commercial
software and/or hardware are also encouraged to apply.
1. OVERVIEW
Changing the geometry of the earth's surface is a universally
specified need across disciplines and throughout history.
The technological era has seen rapid emergence of digital
tools for performing grading tasks virtually. All approaches
weigh the concerns:
o Geometric manipulation - editing 3D geometric surfaces,
o Visualization - seeing a 3D image or model, and
o Accuracy - correct and reliable quantive correct
information.
The Symposium seeks to gather key representatives from
commercial, academic, public and private sectors who are
driving the use and development of these new capabilities.
The latest commercial software, hardware, research
innovations, and user requirements will be prime topics
featured and open for discussion and scholarly debate.

10. FULL PAPER SUBMISSIONS
Publication of accepted full paper submissions is
planned with Springer Verlag AG as part of their,
Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series
(http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/index.html).
Authors are requested to conform to the LNCS
instructions for authors
(http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html),
and to please note that LNCS is now also published,
in parallel to the printed books, in full-text
electronic version and therefore the electronic
files of all parts of the manuscript (including
front matter pages) must be submitted in digital
form as advised in the instructions.
Authors should submit original full manuscripts
(with abstracts) in English not to exceed 16 LNCS
pages in total length, including figures and
bibliography (less than 6000 words); or 4 LNCS
pages for poster contributions. E-mail submissions
must be in a standard format (MS Word, PDF or
postscript, RTF, TeX, LaTeX). The title page of
the paper should contain the title, author(s),
affiliation(s), the submitting author's mailing
address, e-mail address, fax number, telephone
number, a 100-200 word abstract, 5-7 keywords,
and a statement indicating that neither the paper
nor a close simile has been submitted elsewhere
for publication. If you are unable to submit
electronically, please contact the Symposium
organizers to request separate submission
arrangements.
Authors of accepted papers are expected to present
their papers in person and to attend the full
conference.
Manuscripts should be emailed to
mailto:[log in to unmask]
by January 31, 2001.
Notification of acceptance will be mailed out
by April 1, 2001, with final camera ready papers
due May 28, 2001. Further details for publication
of final papers will be included in the acceptance
notification.
11. SOFTWARE/HARDWARE SUBMISSIONS
Commercial vendors who wish to demonstrate
software or hardware as part of the Symposium
program are encouraged to apply. An application
packet submitted to the Scientific Committee should
include the following:
o a concise statement, not to exceed 2 pages
in length, detailing the relevance of the product
to one or more of the Symposium Themes.
o accompanying graphic material submitted on a
floppy disk or CD-Rom. Demo versions of software
are ok.
o the required facility and/or hardware support
necessary to showcase the product at the Symposium
venue or in the field.
o examples of any commercial marketing material to
be distributed during the Symposium or Workshop.
The same submission and registration deadlines apply
to commercial product submissions as to full papers
and posters!
12. WORKSHOP
A pre-Symposium field workshop is planned for September
4, 2001, a day before the formal DEM2001 begin.
Participants will visit a large, active earth
construction project in Switzerland. On-site
demonstration of digital tools used in its design
and construction will take place.
13. CONTACT INFORMATION & VENUE
DEM2001 will be hosted by the Institute for Applied
