Posted by Bob Pulley,
Dear Colleague,
I am jointly responsible (with Professor Colin Beardon from the University
of Plymouth and Dr Suzette Worden from UWE) for the CADE 2000 postgraduate
forum which will take place this year on July 14th at Falmouth College of
Arts.
Details of the CADE 2000 website development are outlined below byAndy
Neal. Andy has recently begun working on the content, design and production
of the website and now needs input from a small number of postgraduate
students who would like to take part in the forum this year.
We are keen to ensure that CADE 2000 is a student led event and to
facilitate this we are organising an asynchronous development process
through the website. Each of the six convenors , which is hopefully where
you come in, will be reimbursed for all costs related to standard class
travel, food and accommodation on Thursday 13th, Friday 14th and Saturday
15th - a summer break in Cornwall.
There will be a further 24 free places available for postgraduate students
who will each receive support for standard class travel, free accommodation
on Thursday and Friday and refreshments on Friday. You may know one or two
fellow postgraduate students who would like to take advantage of this offer.
Please let me know if you would like to contribute to this event and if you
are willing to convene one of the six special interest group discussions.
Each of the six discussion group leader's will be required to join a
mailbase group in order to discuss content development over the next three
months. I expect this to require no more than an hour of your time each
week.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Pulley

A message from Andy Neal
The CADE 2000 website seeks to engage discussion relating to this years
conference before the actual conference day itself. It is hoped that this
will be acheived by the requested submission of sample work, brief essays &
questions from each of the conference attendees and particularly that of
the two keynote speakers and the six postgraduate conveners. This work need
only be a summary of current investigation, but will allow 'opinions' to be
formed before the event itself. The offical application form will include a
request that reads: The only condition attached to a free break in
Cornwall for 30 bright sparks is your agreement to supply 500-1000 word
summary of your Postgraduate work to date, together with a visual sample of
your current work (in digital format) and two questions/observations you
have relating to the development of digital technology within an Art &
Design. (Any work submitted will only be reproduced on the conference
website and used as a vehicle for discussion on the day. It will not be
used in any additional promotional material or be altered in any way.)
Current course title: Summary of work in progress (approx 500-800 words,
typed or on disk if possible): Sample of work (this can be anything you
like as long as it is viewable on the web. For example -
Video/Photograph/Screen grab/Flash movie/Shockwave movie/Audio/URL etc.):
Advance material will need to be sent ASAP in order to include it within
the website when it is launched at the beginning of May.
