DA2 announces an event for VIDEO POSITIVE 2000
CLICK FORWARD 2
Exploring Film On-line
Event Saturday 11 March 2000
Video Postitive, Liverpool UK
CLICK FORWARD 2 is a think-tank intended for practitioners and organisers
whose practice is taking them into this area. It follows on from the Click
Forward on-line film seminar held at the Watershed Media Centre in November
1999.
Question: What are the possibilities for artists' film and video with
digital film on-line?
We are constantly seeing an increase in the way that the internet is used
for the distribution of short film - from sites like Atom Films and D.Film
to music videos. However, there have been less examples of the way that
artists are working with digital film on-line, and less discussion about
its creative possibilities as a medium for a film experience.
CLICK FORWARD 2 day event will have two stages:
1. a round table demonstrations and discussion looking at current projects,
new forms of on-line delivery and expectations of the media.
2. discussion in groups defining what participants see as the key issues
for the development of artists practice, addressing questions that arise in
the day such as :
_ Does the internet offer a new creative language for making moving images
and how can this be marketed to online audiences?
_ Does the internet have the potential to create a unique visual aesthetic
and if so, what is this work shaping up to be?
_ How are technical considerations affecting the possibilities for
production and delivery to an audience?
DEMONSTRATIONS
DA2 and curator Giles Lane have commissioned four artists (David
Bickerstaff, Nick Crowe, Andi Freeman, Karen Mirza) to produce conceptual
prototypes exploring on-line environments through the aesthetics of cinema
and experimental film and video making. These will be presented as
'demonstration models' to kick-off discussion. Also presenting on-line
work: Mark Amerika and Jane Prophet.
The desired outcome of Click Forward is to generate ongoing debate in an
interested audience and community of practitioners and producers, which can
lead onto a full programme of commissions and on-line presentations over
2000 and 2001.
TO PARTICIPATE:
Places for Click Forward 2 are limited to 60 people and are free of charge.
We are interested in having a balance of attendees, from practitioners and
producers, to critics, covering a range of areas of expertise and
interests. We are inviting participants from industry, the broadcast sector
and academia as well as artists. Places are not being allocated on a
first-come-first-served basis. If you are interested in attending, please
e-mail the organisers to let us know what you want to contribute and want
