When I was the Lecturer in Visual Communication Technology at
Edinburgh College of Art, my primary role was to instruct students of
the School of Visual Communication in the use of Macs and various
creative software programs. I often had requests for similar forms of
training from undergraduates and post-graduate students from outwith
the School. Unfortunately, as my department only had one member of
staff - me - I was unable to accommodate all of these requests.
However I had an idea, which I'd been formulating for some time,
which I believed could provide a solution for lecturers and students
faced with similar problems and needs. I decided to leave ECA at the
end of 1998 and have spent the past 12 months turning a concept into
reality.
The result is Wizzthru® - Software Training for the Creative Arts. I
am delighted to announce that our first product, "Wizzthru presents
the Essential Features of Adobe Photoshop 5" for Macintosh, is now
available. The follow-up product, "Wizzthru presents Further Features
of Adobe Photoshop 5" for Macintosh is already in development.
Created and priced with the art and design education market in mind,
the aim of our first product is to provide an instructor-led training
course which can be used by anyone, irrespective of experience, for
personal private tuition. What makes this product different is that
the whole course is contained on four audio CDs and one CD-ROM. As
you listen to the lessons and exercises in the course, you are given
step-by-step instructions with explanations, and you modify and
create images with your own, or your College's, copy of Adobe
Photoshop 5.0 or 5.5.
If you get into difficulties, the CD-ROM has an Interactive Guide
which contains movies of all the exercises and lessons. These can be
played as and when necessary. The Guide also has demonstration movies
of how to scan, resize and print images using Photoshop.
This product costs £125 + packing, delivery and VAT. However we are
offering a special introductory price of £95 + packing, delivery and
VAT for all orders received by 31st March 2000. That's about the same
as hiring a 'specialist' ad-hoc member of staff for a day, but our
product can be used again and again.
