I think it's fundamentally wrong to consider the poetries occurring
hereabouts as being affected by the academy, at leas as far as the 1980s
are concerned. The majority of those poets operating did so without any
academic bent whatsoever. The situation might well be considered to have
ameliorated in that respect over the past decade.
It's equally wrong-headed to level such accusation at LangPo, at least
until the late 1980s. I'd be curious to see the case made, but have a
strong understanding that it will not stick. Just because there are poets
in posts now doesn't mean jack for formative years of the poetries we might
be alluding to on either side of the swelling pond.
