It's a wonderful hope, Ken. Often, when I switch on tv and its the usual, I
imagine What if, instead of these vacuous starlets on the talk shows, or
these recidivist sociopaths, we could watch and listen to Bob Grenier, or
Bob Perelman, or Kathleen Fraser, or Melissa Wolsak, or Ron Silliman : you
can say Well natch _you'd_ like it because you know and admire them and
find them interesting, handsome, beautiful, enchanting,but....But but me no
buts, _anyone_ would find it livelier than what we have instead. It might
take a little time, but millions could get accustomed enough to their ways
to enjoy and want more.
I name N Americanos because I address you from their context. I would be
just as riveted to watch Allen Fisher or yourself or Denise Riley or Wendy
Mulford or Maggie O'Sullivan or Randolph Healy or Tom Raworth or, or, or....
I realize the problem your questions would cope with, is, how to sell the
idea to Channel 4? I might come up with better ideas after a little while;
for now, I can't think of a better format than having two poets on, reading
a poem or two and saying how they made them and what they think of them
tonight; I suppose sexier for the carrier if the discussion can be framed
as 'leave yr blues in the 2oth C' or 'hasnt soccer improved since we cut
out the back-pass to the goalie?'
This note not much help but meant to encourage.
