I was without my car for just over a year
while having eye operations.
Even on the edge of the city it was a real inconvenience
but I got to know the city more.
I would never drive into Manchester
as parking, let alone the traffic, is a real hassle
but using the busses I discovered the city
and quite enjoyed my days on an all-day bus pass.
You can see lots of things
from the top deck of a bus
that are hidden from street level
and also
overhead conversations
can provide inspiration for writing.
When I first got back to driving
I used to look at the bus-route numbers
on the bus stops
to help me navigate.
Now, of course, I'm back to exploring
narrow Peak District lanes
and avoid the city.
