There were some alternative poeple in Edward Lucie-Smith's British Poetry
Since 1945 (1970).
John Freeman did put a little one together at Blackweir Press, but that got
pulped due to copyright difficulties.
John Matthias did his 23 British Poets from black sparrow.
There was one in Frnace.
But I don't know of a single one from a commercial press.
Why this was so is an interesting question, Ian, which I pondered at our
Anthologies conference. I think people turned their backs on the commercial
world; the small presses at the beginning of the period were quite vibrant
and perhaps the reading scene kept everybody in touch. BUT why there wasn't
one, I don't know.
