hi cris
I must say that the suggestion of a proximity of the Arts Council and ideas
is a novelty to me and the furthest-flung juxtaposition of contraries I've
met all week.
It seems to my tadpole of an undestanding that ACE (do they really call
themselves that? wow!) and M.Foucault would be in danger of a philosophical
disagreement, unlike the two women in the launderette a la Monty Python (if
I remember the sketch aright). For surely ACE ( I don't like that name,
let's call her something else, I know, Our Else) and Monsieur Foucault (or
Millie) aproach the donnee from opposed angles.
Our Else, methinks, wants to maintain consensual fictions of reality
(particularly those which buttress bureaucracy by offering an art that is
definable and manageable. An art which knows its place) whereas Milly wants
to undermine them.
Else is happy with the machines (besides which, she's pally with the owner
and gets a discount. Nudge, nudge, know what I mean?) wheras Milly is
disatisfied with her wash and demands new and better facilities: all her
colours come out mute she says and her whites are stained with power
(whoops, I mean powder)
Time to call in M.Sartre I think.
regards
david
