You have 3 more chances, at 9 p.m. tonight & tomorrow (Sunday), and at 4
p.m. tomorrow afternoon, to be able to say, I was there when they
finished Domestic Ambient Noise, this 300-book visual/sound poetry
collaboration between Bob Cobbing & Lawrence Upton. Last night they
launched and performed no 299, dedicated to Alaric Sumner's memory,
supported sensitively by Derek Shiel on percussion (sorry, sound
sculpture, anyway he plays nicely) and Jennifer Pike dancing and
projecting slides. This afternoon the 300th & final instalment,
excellent performances and it was a lovely occasion, actually, at which
far too few people were present. But the celebration continues in the
subsequent performances (and you'll get the opprtunity to perform
yourself, if you want to). There's also a worthwhile exhibition of a lot
of DAN pages on the walls of the room.
The Klinker is at the Sussex (pub), 107a Culford Road London N1
(junction of Culford, Ardleigh, Englefield roads). Yes it's a bit hard
to get to now Highbury & Islington tube is closed, but tomorrow
afternoon it'd be a nice walk from the Angel along the Regent's Canal,
and loads of buses: 73, 171, 243, 149, 22, 67, 30, 156, 38, 273 all go
nearish, and Essex Road BR station is close. There are lots of reasons
why a person interested in poetry might make this effort. Even, or
especially perhaps, if you believe sound poetry has had its day. Bob
Cobbing is a living national treasure and DAN is the major project of
his ripeness. (Lawrence is only in his prime, so can wait for his
encomium...).
