Occurred last night as I was dithering about this and that: we don't
have muchuva (here we go again) dialectic about the history of High and
Low, and I suppose this (cris) was part of my old beef about
discrimination. I should very much like to hear
-- Not only that it's a liberal gesture to say High? Low? Humbug
-- Not just that these mean nothing or ought to
-- but: what do listites think was -useful-, productive, accurate about
that distinction as it was proliferated at specific points in history,
under various guises?
Without which two-way swing, the whole objection seems often like a
funny perk of thesedays: that we can dismiss as irrelevant what
historically has become irrelevant anyhow. No great foresight there.
Also: what procedure of cash-movements has made the 'deep change' that so
gaudily we know celebrate?
