Guys, guys....
I truly did not mean to offend anyone!! I simply put an ad for people to participate in an event that I'm hosting, and in order to create a specific mood for the event I need a certain type of poet....
If I was a nightclub promoter who wanted to host a hardcore Drum 'n' Bass evening I would post an ad on some music newsgroup specifying musicians/DJs who aren't into Bebpo jazz, baroque, or choral music - it doesn't mean that I don't like these forms or that they are without merit.
Also, I am fairly certain that you have misunderstood me quite grossly:
> poetry
> which is a closed loop of designated writer-reader-writer is exclusive within
> that loop and therefore elitist etc while a poetry which is not up its own
> arse would then be a poetry communicated openly by the mouth to a good clean
> pair of ears etc.
I actually *prefer* written poetry to that spoken out loud. (This is my own personal preference so oral poets, don't have a go. Man, you've got to be *so* careful what you say here!)
> It is true that
> some poetry 'requires a lot of prior specialist knowledge' but such knowledge
> can be any manner of things (not just erudition, which is what you seem to be
> referring to)
You're wrong in that. I once wrote a technical poem about the science of psychology (my discipline) which I thought was good but too far up the backside of current psychological theories to be of any use to anyone but students & academics in this discipline. Therefore it became quickly aquainted with the bin...
Mate, I love intellectual, I love high art. Truly I do. I just believe in creativity, synthesis and not erecting artificial barriers based on all sorts of emotional reactions.
Peter
(This is quite good fun actually!)
PS You're all wonderful, whatever type of poetry you write (feel better now?)
