cris, alan, nate & jane et all ~
i think i can concur quite happily with what you (all) are saying about the
definitiveness of the original pamphlet versions of jhp's werk, not so sure
about collaborative reprints though: for me the salient aspect of jhp's
originals (as opposed to the slabbed together bloodaxe bumper edn.) is bound
up in precisely the areas of 'purity' and, i would say, singularity of those
works as originals; perhaps this privilege should be infected; or it may be
that they resist upgrades, since their reproduction would obviate comparisons
with the orignals: i suspect the work, once produced, is considered completed
too.
in a meaningful sense, the bloodaxe complete works is a series of excerpts, a
-tiny- bit like a version of blake which only includes the words. what seems
to me to be -problematic- about discussing prynne's poems is precisely the
difficulty of quoting - since formal (visual, linguistic &c.) concerns seem to
underpin texts so reified and befitted to their prime positions; at best,
excerpts will increase the proliferation of criticism, since they leave so
much behind. . .
