signal to noise is a collective of young visionary musketeers, collaborating
recklessly across artforms wherever, whenever and by any means necessary.
their first show, <the consolations>, premiered at the place theatre last
november and was described by the times (the *times* for xtssake) as "a very
exciting company debut ... in the camp of truth, beauty and devious
inspiration".
the corporate dollar and the government pfennig were not taken, money was
lost, now it's time for signal to noise to claw back, pay its bills and move
on. so here is a one-off (this time) fundraising benefit, to which you are
cordially invited.
on the bill:
making one of her all-too-rare UK appearances, ANNA HOMLER will be performing
a set with chris goode. anna's bewitching live performances have established
her as one of the most dynamic and extraordinary presences on the L.A.
art-music scene, and she has sung and played toys all over the world in the
company of such esteemed figures as steve beresford, david moss and frank
schulte. once heard, never forgotten, her presence is utterly captivating. we
are overjoyed that she'll be joining us.
PHILIP RIDLEY holds the unique distinction of being the only person ever to
receive 'evening standard most promising newcomer' awards in both theatre and
film. (poor bastard.) his wildly imaginative and intensely visionary work has
included the award-winning films 'the reflecting skin' and 'the passion of
darkly noon', and the screenplay for peter medak's acclaimed 'the krays'; and
celebrated stage plays including 'the pitchfork disney' and 'ghost from a
perfect place'. his art works have been exhibited all over the world and his
prose fiction for both adults and children is widely cherished. one of
britain's truly original cult artists, phil will be reading his poetry in a
set that promises to be magical, lurid, disquieting and uproarious in equally
irresponsible measures.
the evening will also feature performances by two front rank young poets,
KESTON SUTHERLAND and JEREMY HARDINGHAM;
new performance from FINLAY ROBERTSON and GEMMA BROCKIS;
improvised music from MARTIN KASIMIR and IZZY WATSON;
and CHRIS GOODE attempting to manifest in all dimensions of space-time
simultaneously.
