Thanks for this Simon it looks interesting.
As administrator for one of the University of Central Lancashire's newest
distance learning course MSc. Health Informatics I am currently looking at
various options with regarding courseware tools etc.,
I will check out the sites you mentioned...
I am intrigued also at the acronym MLE ....these being my own initials...:-)
What does MLE stand for...(being only a novice at this game)...? Never was
goods at acronyms especially TLA's :-)

Hi
Where: Blackboard are at: www.blackboard.com - it's quite a
reasonable website imho and most of the documentation is
readable and recent...
They have a European Office in Holland lead by Bas Tenholter
([log in to unmask]), who is interested in doing business,
but we found very approachable.
What: a Managed Learning Environment...well basically an
integrated set of course 'management' tools with a neat interface.
Easy to get going quickly and you can set up courses on their
server to see how it all works.
How: Have a go on their website....but at its simplest Bb is a
series of on-line templates into which you pour your files - the
subsequent presentation of the material has a clear look and feel
ODL: Could be very useful......
How's that for starters?
On my webpages I have a series of links to MLE 'stuff':
www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/s.n.fitzpatrick/
bottom left of the page - the Becta stuff is excellent reading....
hth
