Father Pádraig Breathnach compiled numerous booklets "penny numbers" of Irish
songs in the early 20th century - some of them were gathered in four volumes
under the title "Songs of the Gael" (Dublin, Browne and Nolan, series I:19??
(my volume says 1922 but this must be a later printing); series 2: 1920,
series 3: 1921, series 4: 1922)
A version in macaronic form much like the one I mentioned is given, as sung
by the Carna singer, Joe Heaney at
http://www.mustrad.org.uk/articles/heaney3.htm (about a third of the way down
the page.
I take it you are aware that there has already been research into musical and
song references in some of Joyce's work.
