Zaigham,
I don't believe there's anything to be found in a search for brands in
acting styles. Certainly there are styles of theatre presentation, eg.
Musical theatre, improv, reader's theatre, drama, comedy, musical comedy,
and so forth.
I have been a professional actor for 30 years in television, film and the
stage. There is almost no discussion or recognition these days of acting
styles. Certain schools over the years have promoted basic acting styles
such as 'the method (Actor's Studio/NYC), the British highly skilled
non-method approach and something in-between. I was trained at LA|MDA
(London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and it was considered to be a
hybrid between the American styles (method-type) and the disciplined,
skill-centred British approach.
As for an actor taking on a persona, this is usually not the case. Actor's
will learn what they can about the character and physical type they are
portraying and dig deep into their own personality to lend that to the mix.
Thus Actor A playing Macbeth is a quite different performance than that of
Actor B. It is this blending of the actor's own pernonality with the 'role'
that makes for compelling performances.
Hope this helps somewhat. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help.
John Friesen
