Thanks for the info regarding the new media commissions - they look really
interesting.
We have an inflatable venue - The Big M - which contains 21 dvd pieces by
16 artists. It's been touring the region this year and, with funding from
the Arts Council, is continuing to tour nationally next year. We would
love to bring it to Scotland. Please contact us if you can help. Please

Isis Arts is pleased to present The Big M, a highly-stylised inflatable
structure that functions as a temporary and mobile venue for the
presentation of digital video. Unprecedented in both design and function,
The Big M presents an alternative to the conventional gallery setting and
provides an unique environment for audiences to experience the thriving
field of video art.
Devised by the renowned design team, Inflate, The Big M is 17 metres in
diameter and 5 metres high. Fabricated from PVC, it has a silver exterior,
a black interior and colourful doors - a truly
spectacular edifice to behold.
Housing a state of the art 'video jukebox', The Big M invites audiences to
explore video art in a fun and engaging way. Via a specially commissioned
touch-screen interface, viewers select work from a collection of 'singles',
each with a running time of 5 minutes or less. The interface incorporates
sound and moving image, giving reluctant or inexperienced audiences a more
dynamic taste of what's on offer. Three video projectors show work on DVD
in a three screen arrangement with stereophonic sound.
The Big M presents 21newly commissioned and contemporary works by 16
artists, including
Cecile Babiole, the Bureau of Inverse Technology, Constantin Chamski,
Veronique Chance, Chris Dooks, Monika Dutta, Paul Granjon, Grant Gee, Simon
Lewandowski, Jon Mitton,
Simon Northrop, Sharron Lea Owens, P2, Keith Piper, Tomato and Wood &
Harrison. From
performance to computer animation, these works push the boundaries of video
production and
highlight the diversity of practice within this growing field. Although
suitable for most audiences, each of the works challenge conventional ideas
and attitudes towards broadcast media - either through form or content.
The Big M tours the UK until Spring 2001 and bookings include festivals at
Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, Zion Arts Centre, Manchester, & The Great
North Run, South Shields, as well as events at the Roundhouse, London and a
visit to the Millennium Dome. The Big M is fully accessible and can be
erected on both urban and rural sites, providing a novel environment for
communities young and old to experience digital video work.
The Big M is produced by ISIS Arts, a non-profit, artist led organisation
which develops and
manages a wide range of visual arts projects in the North East of England.
