Critical Thinking:Critical Issues
Friday November 10, 2000 at Coventry University
Developing students' critical abilities comes high on the list of aims
identified by departments in Art, Design and Communications, whether in the
field of fine art, design, photography, media practice, history of art and
design, or media and communications studies. What we actually mean by
'critical' is not always so clear.
This workshop, organised by the LTSN Subject Centre for Art, Design and
Communications (ADC), will provide an opportunity for you to explore the
practicalities and principles involved in teaching and assessing critical
skills. The workshop will include presentations and case studies, small group
activities and plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.
Participants
The event will be of interest to all staff in the area of Art, Design and
Communications, whether your major concerns are with the studio 'crit', the
analysis of specific forms of visual culture, or the development of
students' critical engagement with historical and theoretical texts.
You can also contribute to preliminary discussions of these issues via the
ADC mailbase list. Please send your views about teaching critical skills -
or any other aspect of teaching and learning - to [log in to unmask]
