> Digital Glass Archive Project - Questionnaire
>
> Your Name Sally Kerr (I am a librarian but I am a free lance art writer
as well for the Herald and Crafts magazine)
>
> Your Address c/o The Herald Newspaper, Albion St Glasgow/Crafts magazine,
Crafts Council London
>
> The Institute for International Research in Glass (IIRG) is establishing
> a Contemporary Glass archive, which will present the work of UK and
> international glass artists and contemporary glass activities.
>
> Do you believe such an archive is beneficial and needed?
> Yes
> Comments:
> Why?
> Comments: This is a long needed and essential archive which would benefit
curators, galleries, students, academics and journalists.
>
> Would you use such a web based Contemporary Glass Archive?
> Yes
> Comments: It would be incredibly useful in my work. At present trying to
gather info on glass artists for pieces is pretty difficult as there is no
one place to go. It is not enough however, to have a CV and some examples of
their work. It would be important to include personal statements,
publications, links to any articles available online.
>
> If so could you indicate how many times a year you would use it and for
> what reason?
> Comments: Probably 4/5 times but could be more depending on articles
>
> Does such an archive duplicate any existing resource?
> Yes/No?
> Comments: Not that I am aware of - the AXIS database at SAC has some
information on glass artists as has the National Centre at Sunderland and
there are websites popping up which mention individual artists (and indeed
some artists have their own sites). This is also true for activities but
this project would bring these together and provide comprehensive info.
>
> Are there particular areas of interest, concerns and practice that you
> would like the archive to address?
> Comments: The National Centre does, I believe, include info on techniques
etc and this would be important to include. On a management level cross
referencing and indexing would be of course paramount, improving user
access.
>
> Are there any further comments you would like to make?
> Comments: Maintenance would be my major concern - regular updating would
be essential and trying to gather such info could be very difficult. I
would also suggest that where possible you link online to articles which
would provide more info on the artists.
>
> If you are involved with an Agency, University, School, Arts
> organisationn, Community association, or similar groupings, would they
> also support such an archive?
> Yes/
> Please state name: Edinburgh City Libraries and Information Services
>
> I would be happy to offer further assistance and advice if required.
