Hi Jenny
When I was at Staffordshire University I put 180,000 slides onto Ameritech's
Horizon system. It would be worth contacting Ruth Brown at Staffs, she
worked on the project with me and now runs the collection. Ruth may already
have been in touch with you, if not, let me know and I'll give you her email
and telephone number. I shall be doing similar things here at the Tate with
Unicorn.
Sorry you couldn't make the ACADI meeting on Monday, it was excellent as
usual.
Best wishes
Barbara

Subject: computerised slide catalogues
Apologies for the cross posting
Here in Cardiff we are reviewing our catalogue of the slide
library which is currently created by the LANSLIDE software (bought from the
University of Lancaster) a package which runs on an unusual operating system
called PICK.
I would like to ask everyone about their slide library
catalogue computerised systems so I can identify people who have engaged in
what I am about to experience-viz.-choosing another vehicle for my slide
library catalogue and mapping existing data to it. One thing I need to
evaluate is the capabilities of book-based systems like TALIS and UNICORN to
perform the tasks I need in a Slide Library., another is to identify useful
database packages for this kind of application. Then I'll be ringing you up
to learn what you learnt -if I may!!
1: is your slide library catalogue computerised/about to be
computerised?
2: is your slide library catalogue database created by your
book library system (e.g. TALIS/UNICORN etc)
3: if not a library system what database software do you use
to create your slide library catalogue?
4. Have you experience of mapping data from LANSLIDE to a
new system?
5 If not LANSLIDE have you nevertheless got experience of
mapping data from an old database to your current catalogue?
thanks everybody
