Yes there is a very easy way besides ironing. It requires rehumidifying the
map. This can be accomplish by using a large trashcan (dustbin) with a tight
fitting lid. Place a couple of inches of water in its bottom along with some
bricks. On top of the bricks place a smaller dustbin. The smaller dustbin
will hold the map or what is curled up. Once you have assembled this put the
large lid on top. The document should be kept in there for about 24-48 hours
depending on how thick the paper is. Once it has loosened then you can lay it
out and put weights on it. I do believe that there is a chemical that should
be put in the water (sodium thiosulfate I think) to prevent mold development.
