Don't forget the spray starch.
Seriously though....being only an amateur they may not be able to do this but... flatten as much as you can and then encapsulate in polyester with light weight cardboard (acid free of course) which will help keep it flattened. It works for us.

If anyone has any bright ideas about how to flatten previously rolled up
maps, beyond sticking them under weighted objects, they would be greatly
appreciated. I have had a message from an amateur archivist who is
threatening to start ironing them. I figured this probably wasn't a great
idea.
