FOI will definitely impact the management of records within the UK. Here in the US FOI is a major aspect of each local state and federal agency. During the past year the Associated Press conducted investigations about the application of FOIA in various states such as Iowa, Virginia, North Carolina and many others. The investigations were conducted in concert with local newspapers within each state. The information gathered was eye opening to say the least. Just recently in Iowa a FOI workshop was conducted for 900 police officers to explain the state's public records act and the state Freedom of Information Act.
Here is a link to a story about that workshop

The irony of having to inform law enforcement officials about following the law wasn't lost on Attorney General Tom Miller, who initiated the training session after a statewide newspaper investigation was published this fall.
