With the permission of the list owner, the Library Association North West
Local Studies Group announce they are holding a dayschool on digitisation at
Crewe library on Wednesday 15th of November. The committee is aware the
Society of Archivists are also holding an event covering the topic of
digitisation but wondered if any archivists in the north of England might be
interested in this event. Some of the materials we deal with are found both
in archives and local studies libraries. The details of the day are as
follows.
Bits Bytes and Books
A dayschool on the impact of digitisation on local studies
Date: Wednesday 15th November 2000
Venue: Crewe Library, Prince Albert Street, Crewe Cheshire
In Local Studies, as elsewhere, librarians in the North West are
increasingly turning to digitisation to solve many of the problems
associated with storage and dissemination of information from different
sources. This dayschool is aimed at sharing the latest developments in the
digitisation of Local History resources from photographs to local
newspapers, as well as looking at the future possibilities.
Our speakers, Nigel Rudyard, John Lauder, Peter Snipe and Eileen Hume will
examine some of the many questions raised in this area, such as "What
projects have been tackled? What degree of success has been achieved? What
problems have arisen". This is an opportunity for all interested parties to
come together for discussion and debate.
