Dear colleagues
APOLOGIES FOR CROSSPOSTING!
We are planning to set up an enquiry desk/reading area for
users of the Special Collections and Archives. (Mine is a
new post, so it's never been possible to offer this service
before). I'd be really interested to hear from colleagues
in academia working with small collections of printed books
and/or archives how you manage your enquiry service/reading
spaces.
In particular:
what staff do you have and who does what?
your opening hours? what access is available outside these
times?
are collections open access within the area, or are items
fetched by staff?
are users required to make an appointment?
how many reader spaces do you have?
what rules do you have and how do you enforce them?
I'd really appreciate any comments, suggestions or advice
you may have to offer. Please reply to me rather than the
list - I will summarise later.
Thanks in advance
Alison
