PROJECT OFFICER ~ Casbah Project
Salary £21,616 Fixed term contract for 16 months from appointment
We need a motivated professional to help co-ordinate a pioneering project
that is researching and surveying national research resources for Caribbean
studies and the history of Black and Asian people in Britain. The project is
being led by the Institute of Commonwealth Studies and involves a consortium
of 15 cross-sectoral institutions including The British Library and The
Public Record Office. The project's findings will contribute towards a
national programme of research support across a wide range of other subject
areas.
A web-accessible database is being developed to host the data which we hope
will provide a clear a picture of the range of resources, including
archives/mss, printed and audio-visual materials, held in libraries and
repositories in the U.K. The project plans to develop survey methodologies
and policy guidelines as a result of its findings and will also be exploring
collaborative collection development arrangements between the major
collecting libraries.
The advert is also appearing in the Society of Archivist's job
opportunities on 15th October.
Further information is available on the project's web-site at
http://www.casbah.ac.uk
Assisted by the Project Researcher, the Project Officer will oversee the
core organizational and research work required for the project, liaising
with partners, creating or editing collection-level descriptions,
maintaining the databases and web-site and ensuring that the project and its
findings are disseminated as widely as possible.
Potential candidates should have a postgraduate qualification in archive,
library or information studies, or records management. A knowledge and
understanding of the professional practice and standards used for collection
description and the cataloguing of archives, books, and other materials is
important, as are good IT skills.
