I was saddened to read Elaine Brison's comments regarding my first issue of
the SRG News circular. Of course no slur was intended; I am a business
archivist. After this year's round of bruising budget negotiations it
wasn't even written as a joke, it came from the heart.
In an organ such as SRG News the editorial is the one place where a personal
voice can be expressed. Also you will find upon opening any mass
circulation daily that the editorial is never signed, there is a long
tradition of this in the press. Besides, my existence as editor was made
clear elsewhere in the issue.
I understand Jeanette Strickland's concerns over inaccuracies in the news
piece regarding the group. Most of this was written before the group
officially existed, from sources where the name of the new group was yet to
be decided. My omitting to up-date the article was inexcusable and I
apologise. As for other assertions in the piece, I look forward to watching
the group develop its own voice. I also intend to join, if allowed.
I am glad that the newscircular has received some attention. Next time I
hope it stimulates some debate.
In No.10 I will include the contact details for the committee and other
officers of the SRG. Copies had to be shipped at some time and so I was
unable to include them this time around.
Respectfully yours,
Mark Pomeroy
