Personally, transport is often a key factor in the decision to attend
meetings. I used to be based in Kent, at one extremity of the Southern
Region. I didn't often get that far west, but I attended a number of
seminars at the Institute of Historical Research in London - in another SoA
region, Tuesday evenings after work. London is an obvious transport node,
but other meetings must be held near the boundaries of other regions.
Perhaps some of these could be more widely advertised across borders?
To pick up on Peter's transatlantic posting, could more meeting notices be
posted on this list, or in the Circular? I know people are loath to use
this forum at the expense of those who do not have email, but it would be an
easy way to get a bit of extra publicity. A scan of the archives for
"regional meeting" came up with only a handful of messages this year, prior
to this month's flurry.
