SYSTEMS ANALYSTS/PROGRAMMERS

The National Archives of Scotland (NAS) is an Executive Agency which
selects, maintains and makes available, records (including electronic
records) of national importance from many sources, including the Scottish
Parliament, Executive and court system, for the benefit of the depositing
organisations, researchers and the general public.
Two new posts are being created within the NAS IT unit which offer an
exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals to be at the forefront of
IT developments in archives. Both posts will contribute to overall IT
strategy and support, provide technical advice on the development of
effective electronic records management systems (ERM) and work on the design
and development of IT systems to ensure the continuing integrity and
accessibility of important electronic records. One post will be involved in
evaluating and developing a replacement electronic cataloguing system for
NAS and the other will act as NAS webmaster.
Both posts will involve considerable individual responsibility and the
opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in a range of fast-developing
technologies. Successful candidates should be self-starters, with broad
knowledge and experience in IT system development. Good communicators,
comfortable with working in teams and with professionals from other
disciplines, will be highly valued. Experience in ERM, project management,
developing applications for the internet/intranet, electronic cataloguing
systems and working in archives, would be an advantage.
These are permanent and pensionable appointments. Applications from
candidates who wish to work part-time or on a job-share basis will be
considered, as will applications from those seeking a secondment if suitable
arrangements can be agreed with your present employer. As well as excellent
working conditions, enhanced by our commitment to training and development,
these posts offer starting salaries in the range £16,912 to 21,023 with an
opportunity to earn further performance related increases up to a total
salary of £24,282. In addition, these posts carry annual pay supplements of
up to £4,000, which are normally payable after 12 months' satisfactory
service. Salary will be pro rata for part-time. Salaries are currently
under annual review.
