I hope it is not necessary to be a member of the Society of Archivists
to contribute to this discussion. (I ceased to be a member some years
ago because I considered that an executive secretary should earn his
keep by providing profit-making services outside the Society, not from
a poll tax on members.) I have continued to subscribe to the Journal
long after leaving the Society. The Journal and the Society's
webpages are, as I understand it, the chief public faces of the
Society to non-members. I think the Journal can appear to incomers
too arcane a professional organ, but I would not wish to see its
content cheapened. The webpages contain much useful organisational
information, but primarily for those already in the Society. If the
Society's purpose is to present the archive profession as a scurrying
ants' nest of intelligent, well-intentioned and purposeful human
beings, I think it would be a good idea to publish each issue of the
Newsletter also on the webpages. It should not be too difficult to
organise.

P.S. Did Mr and Mrs Cclesiasticus and their daughter Valerie ever
arrive at the Ball? My connection was non-operative at the time.
