This is precisely the point I was trying to make on Friday, and which has
met with an underwhleming response. I find this rather surprising given the
number of people I have spoken with recently who only skim read the
Newsletter to see who has moved where, and then glance at the jobs section.
If archives are to compete on a level playing field with libraries and
museums, then we need a means of communicating our activities to the outside
world in a readily accessible, lively and more professional format i.e. a
regular, professionally produced magazine that concentrates on wider issues
of general interest. By all means retain the Journal for more academic
articles of interest only to archivists, but let's try and raise awareness
of the potential and interest of archives beyond our own narrow confines.
