Something which may be relevant - and possibly of interest to others on the
list - is something I saw in the Independent today (though it may also have
been reported in other newspapers?). The French government is apparently
very unhappy withe the Mormons publishing as part of their "familysearch"
website details of entries from French records of birth, marriage and death,
and parish records. According to the article, the Mormons were allowed
access to start microfilming the registers in 1987 on the understanding that
they would only supply the information to their own members, and the French
government now feel that putting it all on the internet is in contravention
of this agreement. I don't have the details to hand - I left them at work
and subscribe to the listserv at home - but if anyone is interested I can
let you know Thursday evening.
I think the PRO website, particularly the inclusion of the catalogue, is an
exemplary resource for researchers of all kinds, family history or
otherwise.
