A Mine of Information - RSLP-funded project

The University of Wales Swansea is the lead institution in a new RSLP-funded
project entitled "A Mine of Information: Cataloguing the South Wales
Coalfield". This project aims to improve access to research resources
relating to the South Wales Coalfield, by creating online catalogue records
for relevant material located in partner institutions, holding the records
in EAD and MARC databases at UWS, and enabling cross-searching of these by
the end-user via the Web.
Applications are invited for the following fixed-term position:
Project Manager (ALC3)
The post involves day to day management of the project, leading a project
team of three staff based at UWS, as well as liaising closely with staff at
partner institutions and with existing archive and library staff at UWS.
Some cataloguing will be required, and the manager will ensure the
consistency and quality of records produced by project staff. The manager
will also be responsible for the evaluation and dissemination of the project
within the HE and archive sectors.
Applicants should be graduates with a postgraduate qualification in archives
administration, and should have well-developed managerial and interpersonal
skills. Substantial experience of archive management, and of the creation of
electronic records for archival material, are essential for this key
position. An interest in the historical and geographical background of
Wales would be desirable.
The salary will be at an appropriate point on the Administrative, Library
and Computer Grade 3 scale, £25,452 to £30,065 p.a. This is a fixed-term,
full-time appointment, until 31st July 2002.
