For information on a project trying to piece together the remaining
fragments of a 3rd century AD map of Rome, in marble, 60 x 45 feet, take
a look at
http://graphics.stanford.edu/projects/mich/forma-urbis/forma-urbis.html
If you ever get involved in a digitising project and begin to feel you
have bitten off more than you can chew, this will give you some
indication that there are others with greater problems.
