I would thoroughly recommend 'Moving Theory into Practice, Digital Imaging
for Libraries and Archives' by Anne Kenney and Oya Rieger (published by
the RLG) which explores both the issues surrounding digitisation and the
practicalities of conversion.
There are also conference papers and guidance about various aspects of
digitisation on the HEDS web site at http://heds.herts.ac.uk (sorry about
the plug!)
