Search Room Assistants - Archives & Special Collections
Salary: 9,794-11,689 pounds per annum (under review)
These posts are funded by the Research Support Libraries Programme
(RSLP) to enhance access to research collections. The main duties will
be to assist with search room supervision, fetch and shelve material for
readers, answer enquiries and help with the listing and numbering of
documents and cataloguing of books. Applicants should have a good
general education (at least 2 A levels), an interest in history, and
good IT skills. A degree, and some knowledge of languages, especially
Latin, will be strong advantages. These posts offer practical experience
of archives work for graduates hoping to apply for a postgraduate
archives course (for this a good honours degree is essential).
The posts are fixed term appointments, one for two years and the other
initially for one year, from August 2000.
