An electronic discussion list relating to the UNESCO Thesaurus
has been established via Mailbase. The list is aimed at users of the
UNESCO Thesaurus and those with an interest in it.
The intention of the list is to encourage discussion about the use of
the Thesaurus for subject indexing. A number of archives have
been using the Thesaurus for this purpose, often by amending it to
meet their local needs. It has been put forward as a possible high-
level subject indexing standard for UK archives. The establishment
of a discussion list was agreed at the inaugural meeting of the
UNESCO Thesaurus Users Group held at the Public Record Office
on 24 February 2000. While the initial membership of the list will
probably be drawn primarily from UK archivists, it is hoped that it
will also attract users of the Thesaurus from outside the archival
community.
To join the discussion list, send an email to
[log in to unmask] with the following text (and nothing else)
in the body of the email:
join unesco-thesaurus firstname lastname
If your email has a signature at the end, type 'stop' on the next line.
Otherwise the Mailbase computer will try to read the signature and
will send you an error message:
e.g. join unesco-thesaurus Hilary Jenkinson
stop
