As Bruce Jackson pointed out, it would take a tough person with a lot of
time to take on a role like media relations officer in a voluntary capacity,
and such a person might be hard to find. So is there any scope for making a
paid position of spin doctor within the Society's staffing structure? If
this were possible, it may be the best way of appointing someone with
knowledge of the business, and if this person were sufficiently proactive to
bring the image of archivists out of the mould of recluses/anoraks/ more
marginal than library and museum professionals it would arguably be
money well spent.
