I thought that archivists might find information about these information
sheets useful when talking to those in museums.
Archives in Museums Information Sheets
The Standing Conference on Archives & Museums (SCAM) has launched a set
of four advisory leaflets about managing and preserving archives. The
leaflets have been written to provide basic advice and information to
museums and to alert them to the special needs of archives. The four
titles in the series are:
1. Collections Policy and Management
2. Archival Listing and Arrangement
3. Archive Preservation and Conservation
4. Access to Archives
Copies are being distributed to all of the Registered museums in the UK
through the network of Area Museum Councils. The leaflets were funded
through a grant from the Museums & Galleries Commission (MGC). Copies
are available, free of charge, from Peter Winsor at the MGC. Please

The Standing Conference on Archives & Museums (SCAM) was established in
1989 with the approval of the Councils of the Association of Independent
Museums, the Museums Association and the Society of Archivists. SCAM
sees its work, building bridges between archivists and museum curators,
as particularly important at a time when the emphasis is on increasing
co-operation between professions. For more information on the work of
SCAM contact Rob Shorland-Ball (Chair) email: [log in to unmask]
