The Breaking the Seal website (sorry everyone, I have left the url at home) is good though and lists a) numerous useful archives websites including HMC's list of repositories and b) lots of the standard books re local and family history I remember telling searchers to use. There may also be a feedback email to which we could perhaps send our complaints about lack of professionals.
Confessing to a bit of stirring here because I don't own a telly so can't watch any of these gems of modern culture
