Dear list members
The museums documentation association (mda) are running a PRINCE 2 Project
Management 1 day Overview course for 12 participants on 2nd October at the
English Heritage Brooklands House office in Cambridge. The trainer will be
from Quality Projects, a group that the former-RCHME have used before for
PRINCE training. Participants will most likely be from mda and other
heritage sector organisations.
mda have 4 spare places on the course, offered at £150 per place, about
£30-£40 below the usual commercial rate.
This would likely be of interest to anyone out there planning a major
project, particularly if it has a large IT component (e.g. a digitisation
programme, web site development, database procurement etc) or needs a
project management method to support a funding bid (HLF, NOF etc), and would
like to know more about PRINCE.
I attach below the details from mda. If you are interested, please contact
[log in to unmask] direct (please don't reply to this list).
Apologies for any cross-posting.

Project Management Training Opportunity!
On October 2nd mda, in association with Quality Projects
(an Accredited PRINCE Training Organisation) is offering
5 places on its PRINCE Overview Course. The course
will be delivered by Quality Projects, to a mixture of mda
staff and other interested heritage professionals. The
course is designed to provide delegates with an overview of
PRINCE Version 2, either to achieve a general
understanding or as a preliminary to further training.
PRINCE (Projects In Controlled Environments) is a
structured method for effective project management. It is a
de facto standard method which is used extensively by UK
Government and widely recognised and used in the private
sector, both in the UK and internationally. Its inherent
flexibility allows it to be applied at a level appropriate to the
project. PRINCE is a Registered Trademark of CCTA.
The Key features of PRINCE include:
· its focus on business justification
· A PRINCE project is driven by its business case
that describes the organisation's justification,
commitment and rationale for the project's deliverables
or outcome. The business case is regularly reviewed
in conjunction with the project's progress to ensure the
business objectives, which may well change during the
life of the project, are still being met.
· a defined organisation structure for the project
management team
· its emphasis on dividing the project into manageable
and controllable stages
A PRINCE project has:
an organised and controlled start, i.e. organise
and plan things properly before leaping in;
an organised and controlled middle, i.e. when the
project has started, make sure it continues to be
organised and controlled;
an organised and controlled end, i.e. when you've
got what you want and the project has finished,
tidy up the loose ends.
If you would like to read more about the course content it
can be viewed at www.quality-projects.com.
If you would be interested in joining us for this training day,
which will be taking place in Cambridge on October 2nd at
the English Heritage Offices in Brooklands Avenue, please
send your contact details as soon as possible to the
address below.
The discounted price will be £150 for fellow heritage
organisation professionals.
